My Thoughts:

This is the story where we get to know Maverick Prince’s sister Macey.  She seems to say one thing but wants something else.  She seems to be holding in a lot of anger, which you can almost feel coming off the page.  It was not hard to feel sorry or sad for her.

Devon Lions has a history with Rick’s girlfriend Lo Stone.  If you’ve not read their story yet, this may give you the incentive to check out what you’ve missed.  Devon is trying to learn from past mistakes.  This was where I really had to feel sorry for both our main characters.

Macey seems like a train wreck waiting to happen.  Instead of asking for help she tries to deal with it on her own and you’ll see how well that’s working out for her.  You can tell she’s screaming on the inside and with this story being told in the first person; I can hear her loud and clear.

Devon has his own issues.  He’s making life choices based on what someone else wants.  And what he wants seems so far out of his reach.  He seems like an addiction to Macey – she can’t seem to stay away.  He’s got just what she needs.  But how is going to help her with the secrets she seems to be carrying.  One good thing is that she seems to be able to open up to him.

Just like other books in this series, the main characters seem older than what they say they are.  I think of them being in college rather than getting ready to graduate from high school.  This is most evident with a few of the incidents that occur.  If you’re a parent that reads the book before deciding if a YA is appropriate for your child, be aware that there is underage drinking going on.  For me, it seems as if the parents are oblivious to what their children are doing.  You will also want to remind them that this is a work of fiction.  We also have teenagers making adult decisions.  My happiness came in knowing that this author isn’t done with this series yet.  Bad news came when I see I have to wait until next spring – it’s going to be a long winter.

About L.A. Cotton:

Author of mature young adult and new adult novels, L A is happiest writing the kind of books she loves to read: addictive stories full of teenage angst, tension, twists and turns.
Home is a small town in the middle of England where she currently juggles being a full-time writer with being a mother/referee to two little people. In her spare time (and when she’s not camped out in front of the laptop) you’ll most likely find L A immersed in a book, escaping the chaos that is life.

I should have known it was only a game.
I should have known he was too good to be true.
He’s nothing but a player...

Player, an all-new sexy, standalone romantic comedy from
Staci Hart, is available NOW!

player-wrap

He’s a player.

He plays the bass with expert fingers. He plays women with intoxicating charm. And he’ll play me with the ease of a virtuoso.
Who better to teach me to play than the master himself?
I’m his model student, front row, pencil sharp. Pick up lines? I’ve got them. Free drinks? By the dozen. Kissing? Let me grab my chapstick.
But the most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that there’s so much I don’t know. Like why his touch sets off a chain reaction straight to my nethers. Or how I’m certain each kiss is the best I’ll ever have, until the moment his lips take mine again.
There’s so much I don’t know.
Like the fact that I’m only a bet.
But we are what we are. He’s a player, through and through.
And I’m the fool who fell in love with him.

Excerpt:

The night flew by, time speeding up and sliding past with nothing to mark the hours but his laughter and my smiles and our bodies bouncing around the parquet like we had nothing in the world to do but dance. I had no idea how late it was until “New York, New York” came on with the house lights.

Sam hooked me under his arm and guided me out into the chilly fall evening. Like an idiot, I’d come without a jacket, and I tried to play it off like I wasn’t cold. A shiver wracked down my spine, betraying me.

He shrugged off his leather jacket. “Here, wear this.”

“B-but then y-you’ll be cold,” I said, shifting away from him in an effort to stop him. “Look, it’s n-not even cold. It’s f-fake cold. It’s only what—like, sixty out? M-my body is j-just being drunk and d-dumb.”

“Val.” The word was a gentle warning. He held out his jacket like a matador. “Put it on.”

“N-no,” I said with a laugh.

He shook it once like he was taunting me. “Toro.”

I giggled, stumbling a little as I brought my hands to the top of my head, pointer fingers to the stars. “Olé!” I cheered as I charged. But instead of running through his jacket, I found myself in his arms.

I didn’t know how it happened. The jacket was there, and then it was gone. But instead of being laid out on the sidewalk like I should have been, Sam’s arms were hooked around my waist, our bodies winding together and twisting from the force of his catch. And then I looked up, and time stretched out in a long, still moment. His eyes on my mouth. Mine on his. His nose millimeters from mine and his mouth so close, if I turned my head just right, our lips would brush. The warmth of him was everywhere.

I wasn’t cold anymore. I was on fire.

So I said the first thing that entered my empty mind.

“Are you going to kiss me, or am I gonna have to lie to my diary?”

The moment broke with our laughter, filled the air around us, stopped my chugging heart. He pressed his lips to my forehead.

I sighed. “I guess that’ll do.”

He hooked his jacket over my shoulders, taking a moment to look over my face, watching his fingers as he tucked a loose curl behind my ear. “Come on. Let’s get you home. You did good tonight, Val.”

“Thanks to your expert advice.”

But he smiled. “Pretty soon, you’ll figure out you didn’t need me at all.”

And I smiled back and pretended like it was possible that statement held an iota of truth.

StaciHartAbout the Author:

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life -- a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife, though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey.

From roots in Houston to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she's not writing, she's reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

Social Butterfly PR Presents: Wicked Wedding by Sawyer Bennett; #BlogTour, #NowAvailable, #OutNow, #Review

WickedWedding-SBPRBANNER-BT.jpg

Wicked Wedding, an all-new sexy standalone novel, from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Sawyer Bennett is available NOW!

WickedWeddingCoverBW

Rating:  4.5 Stars
Told in the first person.  Alternating persons.

Disclosure of Material Connection:  I received this book for review from Social Butterfly PR and the author.  I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review.  The opinions I have expressed are my own.  I am posting this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255:  "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising".

Blurb:

It all started with a wedding…
Well, three weddings, to be exact. The one that happened, the one that went up in flames, and the one nobody saw coming.
Andrew Collings has seen a lot of things living in Vegas. Hell, he’s done a lot of things. But one thing he’s never witnessed is a beautiful brunette, hitchhiking her way into the city, wearing a wedding dress. Until now, that is.
Brynne Adams is running away from a broken heart. She expected a lot of things from her wedding day but finding photos of her fiancé and maid of honor and best man in a compromising position wasn’t one of them. She most certainly never imagined that she’d end up marrying the handsome stranger that rescued her from the side of the road that day.
Andrew and Brynne’s quick nuptials may have been the result of a drunken joke, but they soon realize that love can be found in the most unlikely of places if you just stop and take a chance.

* Wicked Wedding is the fourth STANDALONE NOVEL in the LEFT AT THE ALTAR series in a collaboration of six New York Times Bestselling Authors: J. S. Scott, Ruth Cardello, Raine Miller, Sawyer Bennett, Minx Malone, and Melody Anne.

My Thoughts:

Andrew Collings seems to feel left out. You have to feel sorry for him. Brynne Adams has the day from hell but there’s someone who sets out to change that. It was interesting to watch our author’s creativity at work. All from a conversation and change of events. It was at that point that solidified my near future. Wanted to put in earplugs so I could shut out the real world and enjoy this book in peace.

Andrew is perfect book boyfriend material – yes that is a thing, if you’ve never heard of that expression. Make no mistake; he’s going to create a lot of heat and steam but I can picture him as a poster on a wall - sigh. Anyone that follows this author knows her Wicked Horse series. Interestingly enough, this book is actually part of the Left At The Altar series. These books are all by different authors but they’re not needed to enjoy this one but I am interested to see how this ties in with the other stories. There is also a tie in with the book Wicked Envy. Andrew and two of his friends start their story there and it finishes here.

What’s nice about this story is that our author shows that her characters actually have a life outside of the Wicked Horse. Something that was sweet is that in the short amount of time that Andrew and Brynne have been together, he feels so protective of her. It’s a pleasant story where a man gets to find his happy place with the right woman. Our author puts in a little twist where if you thought you were going to put the book down, that scene will have you changing your mind. Partly because Brynne gets frustrating and I don’t want to see my book boyfriend sad. But happily she redeems herself at the right time.

Excerpt:

“Let me prop the door open and I’ll carry you over the threshold,” I tell Brynne as I press the keycard against the magnetic reader.

She giggles, a sound I normally find grating on a grown woman, but on Brynne it’s charming. Her cheeks are flushed, and her eyes are still sparkling with energy.“Well, you are very Thor-like, so a girl would be crazy to refuse to be carried over the threshold by her husband.”

That’s right. I’m her husband, but let’s rewind just a bit to detail how this all went down.

It took me exactly fifteen minutes and three phone calls to set things up, just as I promised her.

The first call was to the nicest, swankiest Vegas chapel that I could find with a Google search. I was advised we’d have to obtain a license at the Las Vegas Marriage Bureau for the low price of seventy-five dollars, and I wasn’t surprised in the least to learn it was open twenty-four hours a day on the weekends. I was able to arrange a limousine to pick us up, as well as an explosion of flowers within the chapel itself. When I gave my credit card number to the woman, I told her to go crazy on decor, but I specifically requested white calla lilies for the bride bouquet because Brynne told me those were her favorites.

The second call was to a jeweler where I was able to purchase two very simple wedding bands in gold. It’s a detail I probably could have ignored considering we both knew this was just for fun, but fuck it. I’m rich, which means I have the ability to make this as nice as I can for Brynne.

The third call was to my attorney, who explained annulment laws and assured me it was a fairly straightforward process. I’d have to institute the action—called a complaint—and if Brynne waives service, we can present our annulment request to the court to be approved after twenty days. It wasn’t immediate, but twenty days was nothing in the grand scheme of things.

By the time we took a limo to the marriage bureau, stood in line for about thirty minutes with other like minded folks, and then made our way to the chapel, we’d sobered up quite a bit.

“You sure you want to do this?” she asked me just before we went in.“I mean… it was a fun notion when we were a little more buzzed.”

“Hell yes,” I’d told her with a devilish grin.“Mostly so we can send a picture to the whore and the asshole.”

Her laugh was sparkling and beautiful and just a little evil, which made her infinitely more attractive to me.“It’s all in good fun with no risk,” I’d added on to assure her.

So we went in, both of us grinning like fools during the ceremony. It felt fake, because it was fake, but in some respects, it’s the most real thing I’ve ever done. Because what we were doing had real purpose. It was to give Brynne and her glorious wedding dress a moment to shine.

It became even more real when the minister—who was not dressed like Elvis, but was very dapper in a dark gray suit with an old-fashioned cravat tied at his neck—told us in a very cultured voice,“You may kiss the bride.”

Fuck.

I hadn’t thought about the kiss.

I mean, I’d thought of kissing her because she’s sexy and vibrant and smiling despite the fact she was shit on hard today. But I hadn’t thought about the“wedding kiss”. Because even though this is all fake, somehow a man giving us formal permission to put our mouths together to seal our marriage vows makes it very fucking real.

There was no hesitation. When my lips touched hers and she gave a tiny huff of pleasure, I realized I wanted to consummate this fake marriage very badly.

I did not, however, know if Brynne felt the same. Because today would probably go down as the worst and weirdest of her life, I wasn’t going to push. Instead, I took her out for a radically expensive late dinner and then we hit a popular jazz club where we listened to music.

And then it happened.

A slow song was played. A bluesy number people just sort of sway to, and I asked her to dance with me.

She accepted.

It was Brynne who kissed me. Slid her delicate fingers into my hair, went to her tiptoes in her gray tennis shoes with teal-blue accents, and pressed her mouth to mine. My mind reeled, and my cock started to twitch to attention as we swayed and kissed. The words were forming in my mind on how best to invite her into my bed without sounding like an opportunistic douche, but then it didn’t matter.

She pulled her mouth from mine, relaxing and tipping her head back to see me.“If we have sex tonight, does that ruin our chances of getting an annulment?”

I had no fucking clue what the answer was. It had never crossed my mind I might actually get the chance to fuck her, so I didn’t ask my attorney.

“Not that I know of,” I hedge. At least I didn’t flat-out lie to her.

“Good,” she said with a smile.“Let’s go to my hotel room.”
