Combust
Hotter Than Hell #6
by Holly S. Roberts
Genre:  Steamy Romantic Suspense
Rating:  4 Stars

Southern California is in the middle of a heatwave but that doesn’t hold a candle to Arizona in the middle of the summer.

Austin Miller, the enforcer for Southern California’s crime boss, takes over after his boss and mentor dies. He’s set on revenge against the people responsible for Victor’s death and he’ll stop at nothing to get what he wants.

Melina Fernandez has never wanted anything to do with her brother’s criminal organization and has nothing to do with the hit he ordered on Southern California’s leader. She’s caught in the middle of a deadly game and her brother plans to sell her to the highest bidder as soon as possible.

When Melina is kidnapped by Austin, her worst nightmares are realized.  It’s not her body he wants, it’s her flesh and her sanity.  Trapped in a dark basement for days she decides to unravel her life story while Austin works on mutilating her skin with a tattoo machine.

When Moon, the crime lord of Arizona steps into help, Melina might find her salvation. The clock is ticking and her brother now wants her dead. Austin isn’t a man for games but he does want Melina at any cost, even his life.

Are you ready to COMBUST?

**easily read as a standalone!**

Austin Miller has gone through what a child should never have to. But that experience is part of the reason of what he is as an adult. Melina Maria Fernandez suffers revenge at someone else’s hand. Some may want to call it abuse and only you can decide which it is. It’s a story with some very strong emotions so don’t go into this story expecting smiles or hearts and flowers. It’s a dark tale that’s raw with no excuses.

Even knowing how dark the tale is, I found myself wanting to know what came before. But I didn’t feel, at any time, that I needed the previous five books in order to understand what was going on here. I did however become curious about Mak so I’ve already marked it for my TBR list. If you’re a “vanilla” type of person, what’s going on between Austin and Melina is on the other end of that spectrum so you need to understand that before opening this book.

I found this story to be confusing – just couldn’t figure it out. Where are Austin and our author taking the reader? In this case I didn’t mind because the author has done a good job at getting me to turn the page as well as wanting to know more about the Hotter Than Hell series. It takes almost the whole book to find that Austin created a masterpiece, which left me a little disappointed because I’ll never get the chance to see it. This book reminds me of a train. It starts off slow and picks up steam until it gets us to our destination. But in this case it felt like someone pulled the emergency break – we come to an abrupt halt. It’s sad to say that I can’t find if this is the end of a series or if it will continue. I’m left with a curiosity and that only time, and the author, will tell if book seven is in the works.

He’s gorgeous in an underwear model sort of way. At least until you reach his eyes. When the light reflected off them, I almost stepped back. They’re pale green, almost startling if you don’t look into their cold, lifeless depths. Pools of darkness lurked in the round orbs, so strong, it scared the fucking shit out of me. I’ve grown up around deadly men, but none left me trembling and wanting to escape the intensity of just a gaze.

I make a frustrated sound deep in my throat. I need to escape so I never have to look into his eyes again. Pounding the metal loop in the floor with my foot only adds to the raw flesh already there. He’s going to kill me for something my brother did. The worthless, evil, blood kin I’ve dreamed of killing for years. If only I were stronger emotionally and physically. Or maybe not. Given the chance, I’ll kill the man holding me.

I’ve thought about my own death so many times through the years I lost track. I shouldn’t be resisting the inevitable end to my life. My brother’s plans for me would pale in comparison. He’s told me often enough that I’m nothing more than a breeding machine to form better alliances.

Being given to one of the men my brother makes alliances with would be a nightmare worse than death and it’s all I’ve had to look forward to since my sixteenth birthday. That’s when the earnest threats began. To die for my brother’s sins is an ironic twist to a fucked up life I wish I couldn’t claim.

Silver Dagger Tours Presents: The Hitman Who Loved Me by Shady Grace; #BlogTour, #OutNow, #Giveaway

THE HITMAN WHO LOVED ME
by Shady Grace
Genre: Romantic Suspense

Pub Date: 6/20/17

Is that a gun in his pocket or…?

Jamie Fields can hardly refuse a free vacation. Jobless and broke, the struggling single gal is in need of serious stress relief. Sure, the set up is suspicious—no one gives away a trip to exotic Cuba—complete with 50,000 dollars cash—just for delivering a package. But once Jamie’s enjoying sunny beach days and exhilarating tropical nights, she’s too happy to care.  Especially when she finds herself hotly pursued by a sexy stranger…

The McCoy empire is under siege, and Sam Hayes has been tapped to take care of the culprit. Sam knows better than to get involved with his target, but there’s something about Jamie that keeps him from simply finishing the job and moving on. Maybe the hard-bodied hitman just can’t wrap his mind around the fact that the first woman to set his soul on fire is a common criminal. The only thing Sam can do is keep her close. An easy enough task—if Sam doesn’t do something stupid. Like fall in love with the bombshell he was sent to kill….

As he caught his caving breath, he scanned the street and spotted a bargain clothing store a few shops down. He rushed in, grabbed a pair of jeans off a shelf, a hoodie from a rack, and went straight to a dressing room. Once he transferred his wallet and cigarettes into his pockets, and removed the reading glasses, he stepped out of the dressing room like a new man. “Ah, just what I need.” With calm only a man used to a life of chaos could have, he strolled over to a row of baseball caps and fitted the nearest one onto his head.

The cashier stared at him with wide, unbelieving eyes, before her nervous gaze shifted to the  street. Two hospital guards and a few cops stood outside hitting up pedestrians for information.  Sam smiled at the girl. She looked barely of age, probably only in the work force for a few  months. He’d bet a grand she was about to pee behind that counter.

He lifted his hands to reassure he didn’t have a weapon. “You have nothing to fear from me.” With one hand still raised, he reached into his pocket with the other, pulled out a few bills and gently placed them onto the counter. “This is more than enough for the clothes, and a little extra for you.”
She nodded despite the shimmer of tears in her eyes. “I won’t say anything. Just promise you won’t hurt me.”

Sam smiled again, positive she wouldn’t alert the cops. “I promise, and I appreciate your cooperation. It’s not what you think.”

He knew she didn’t believe him. “Whatever you say, mister.” Sam headed toward the front door. “You—you’re gonna go out there? There’s cops everywhere,” the girl said, her eyes wide with surprise, her mouth curved up in a do it, I dare you grin.

Sam couldn’t help a low chuckle. She may be scared, but like a typical kid, she was thrilled by the chase. He headed for the door again, but paused to say over his shoulder, “If I were you, I’d treat myself to a night out with that money. It’s Saturday, the best day of the week.”

The cashier blushed and pocketed all of the money. “We don’t have cameras in here. Stuff goes missing all the time.” She shrugged, obviously more comfortable now that he was leaving, and maybe because she had made a few bucks for keeping her mouth shut. She grinned. “Have a good day, sir, and good luck.”

Sam winked and walked out of the store, right in front of the men in uniform. He knew he wouldn’t be recognized with a new outfit and a baseball cap. He plastered an expression of concern on his face. “What’s going on?” He stood next to one of the officers, withdrew a cigarette and his lighter from the case. As he lit the end and took a long drag, one of the cops turned to face him.

The officer gave Sam a good once-over and nodded. “We’re looking for a man who just escaped from the hospital.”

“You mean a mental patient?”

The cop shook his head. “No. All we know at this time is that he was wearing grey slacks with a white button-up shirt, glasses, and he looked to be of mixed descent. Average height and build.”

The cop glanced at him again from shoes to baseball cap.

Sam hid his amusement as he sucked in another deep drag of his cigarette. Mixed descent could mean anyone this day and age. He was often confused as being Asian or Native American, or a mixture of the two, and he enjoyed keeping people guessing his true African-Irish origin. “I see.”

Another officer joined them. Sam recognized him as one of the guys connected to the McCoys. They often called upon him for Intel: when patrol would be going by, or to make tickets and profiles disappear, or to dig up background on a person. He was also among the badges at Colton’s funeral.

As they made eye contact, Sam kept his expression passive. “Well, I hope you find him. We don’t need criminals running around these streets.”

Shady Grace makes Northern Ontario her home, where the bush is so thick you can't see two feet past the tree line. Perhaps the mystery of the woods was what initially sparked her need to write. She adores strong alpha males who fall for fiery, independent women, in settings with humorous dialogue and action-filled plots. Shady believes love and sex should be exciting and unforgettable. Being able to write about it is better than cheesecake. My Thoughts:

This story is just as hot as the first book.  It has more violence than Wolf’s story but nothing you can’t handle.  We also have two stubborn individuals.  It’s interesting to see who wins.  At the end I was happy to see that I only have to wait until August for the next book to come out.

During the summer months, we seem to be busy with kids out of school, trying to spend more time with family, and fit in some downtime in order to destress.  What’s great about this series is that you can read a book in just over an hour.  If you want a marathon read than it will be just a couple of hours.  I can picture reading these books again and having that marathon once the series is complete.  August can’t get here fast enough.

It was late when I entered my apartment. I sank down on the couch and stared out into the city. I lived in a high rise in downtown L.A., it offered a good view and it was near the club, I also owned the building. I had a few investments, mostly in stocks, so I did well for myself. I didn’t really have any family or anyone I truly cared about, except for Wolf and most recently, Scarlett. I used to do security for the military, and after retiring, Wolf gave me a place to stay and opened his doors for me. I was glad to have someone like Wolf. He’d been a good friend throughout the years. When he took over as President, he immediately named me VP, and it’s been that way for the last five years. The brotherhood was my refuge and although we didn’t voice it, we were a pretty tight knit family.
I stood up and went to grab a beer. I headed down the hall to my bedroom, where an empty bed awaited me. Usually it didn’t bother me, but lately I’d been yearning for a warm body to press up against. Specifically, a voluptuous blonde, with eyes the color of emeralds. My cock stirred and I sighed as I took a swig of my beer and sat at the edge of the bed.
Images of Rahyne spread out on my mattress kept flooding through my mind and they had been non-stop lately. It didn’t matter where I was or who I was with, I couldn’t get the temptress out of my head. It was starting to worry me.
I never even thought of settling down. I lived my life peacefully, went where I wanted, fucked who I wanted, and didn’t give a shit about anything. But with Rahyne...fuck, I thought my urgency to have her was just an infatuation-something that would go away in a matter of weeks. Six months later, and my body still craved hers, more now than ever before. Running my hands through my hair I fought my desire to go looking for her and I gulped down my beer.
Lying back on the bed I let her image envelop me and I pulled out my shaft-hard as a rock as usual-and stroked myself, remembering the sound of her sweet whispers, and the moans and whimpers I heard on an almost daily basis. I groaned, imagining the wonderful feeling of her tight pussy hugging my swollen member. Remembering the way she shouted my name, and how her body gripped me, made me jerk off harder. Knowing I could manipulate her body to such extremes had me grunting my release as streams of white fluid leapt out and landed on my stomach. I breathed out and splayed my arms on the mattress. Closing my eyes, I imagined her by my side, and the only thought that came to my mind, before I drifted off, was that I was going to make her mine.

Wolf
A Hell's Lovers MC Romance #1
Rating:  5 Stars
Told in the first person.  Alternating persons.

Scarlett Chase is every man’s wet dream.
As soon as I laid eyes on her, I knew she’d be mine.
That is, until I found out she was untouchable.
One kiss, one forbidden touch, will have me out on the streets and stripped of who I am.
Yet I want her. I need her. And I’m done following all these damn rules.

Wolf Stone is my obsession.
Ever since he pulled over on that empty road, I’ve been tormented by the man.
His possessive words and heated looks have me tightly wound.
One touch, and he lights me on fire.
But I want more.
I not only want him in my bed, I want to keep him for myself.
But he won’t budge, and now it’s up to me to entice his sleeping wolf.

My Thoughts:

This story is very hot, our main characters are hot, but Wolf’s life seeps into the story that shows the MC lifestyle is never far away.  And sometimes that involves violence.  But if you don’t like the graphic violence that a lot of MC romance stories have, you’ll be happy to know that you won’t find that here.  It was a great way to start the series.  More like a teaser of things to come.  Can’t wait to see where it goes from here.

“Wolf.” I breathed, dragging my hands along his tussled hair.
I felt the hot slickness of his tongue lick me from the base of my shoulder up along the curve of my neck. He stopped briefly before nipping my earlobe and I nearly came, right then and there.
“You taste so goddamn good.” He whispered.
I gripped his hair and whimpered. “Don’t stop, Wolf. Please, don’t stop.”
My words seemed to snap him out of his trance and he stepped away from me. I glided down the wall and a feeling of emptiness surrounded me as he moved away.
My hands reached for him, but he turned away. I could tell his breathing was labored, and he was just as, or even more affected by this, than I was. I reached out and touched his back and I suddenly found myself pressed once more against the wall. My body arched like a cat in heat, trying to bring every inch of him against me. The movement was futile as he gripped me by the shoulders and half shook me awake from my lust filled moment.
“Stop it. Stop, Scarlett. I won’t be able to do this if you don’t stop.” He pressed his forehead against mine and ran his hands down my arms, gripping my hips. His mouth said one thing, but his hands wouldn’t stop touching me. “Stop. Please.”
My body stilled at his request, but it remained thrumming alongside his.
“Don’t stop, Wolf. Please. Please, don’t do this.”
He dragged his rough jaw against my cheek and breathed in. “I can’t. I just can’t.” He squeezed his eyes shut, almost as if it hurt. He waited a few minutes, hid body vibrated against mine, and his hands continued to hold me. “I won’t have you wandering down here. You need to leave.”
“What?” I whispered.
He gripped my waist tightly. “I want you to leave, Scarlett. You don’t belong here!”
I rubbed my hands across the muscles of his chest and his breath hitched. “I don’t want to leave. I want to stay here. With you.”
He growled and leaned his body into mine. “Me too, gorgeous. Oh God, me too.”

My name is Crimson Syn, not really, but what fun is it to use my real name. Instead I’ll use my inner goddess’ name, it’s much more fun that way. I grew up in New York City where I had a wonderful education, loving parents and awesome friends. What more could a girl ask for?

I started writing at the age of sixteen. The first romance I read was Stephanie Laurens’ Devil’s Bride. Since then I have been influenced by dozens of flourishing romance authors and even more dashing and daring rogues. I must say it, but Fifty Shades was not my first erotic romance, nor did it influence me to start writing them. If you’ve never read Mary Balogh, Elizabeth Hoyt, Lisa Kleypas, Bertrice Small or A.N. Roquelaure’s Sleeping Beauty trilogy, then you’re missing out. Those were my sweet introductions to erotic romance, and boy were they hot.

So here I am, after reading so many wonderful stories, I have too many sinful tales of my own not to share. I like my alphas rough and possessive, and I have no shame in saying it or writing it. I had delightfully wicked teachers growing up, their books took me to new worlds and brought me new loves. So, I want to do the same for you. I want to indulge my readers in those steamy reads that will send them into the arms of dangerous alphas and deliciously sexy rogues, without leaving the confines of their nice warm bed. If I am able to entice your inner goddesses, then I have done my job and I am satisfied.
