When a series of unexpected events threatens the framework of her new life with Ian, Alex retreats to her hometown of Cole's Church, Texas where she is caught up in a web of intrigue from her past. A past that she willfully forgot. Even if the events of that summer put her entire future into motion. Will returning to her roots give her the direction she needs to secure her future happiness with Ian or be the catalyst that tears them apart?
Exclusive Excerpt:
“Well, you got me here. What do you want to say?”
Alex fidgeted, running clammy palms over the back pockets of her jeans. “I just wanted to say I’m sorry.”
“For what?”
“For—” The words tumbled around her mouth and tasted sour on her tongue. “For kissing you and then—”
“Never talkin’ to me again?”
Alex studied the stripes in the rug. “Basically.” A wave of guilt rippled through her.
“We kissed. It was fun. End of story.” Logan stared as if he saw right through her and then let his shoulders slump into the zebra hide chair. “Look, Alex.” He sighed heavily. When she lifted her head, she noticed the softness of his features in the candlelight and the red-gold of his perfectly coiffed hair. “It’s not like you made any promises to me. I knew what I was doin’ and I did it anyway.”
“I know but—” She chewed on her lip. “It’s no excuse but I wasn’t in a good place then and I did things that—”
“Do you regret it?”
The question smacked her in the chest with a force she didn’t expect. Did she? Should she? He uncrossed his feet and planted them on the floor, rocking forward with his elbows propped on his knees as he regarded her in perfect silence.
“No,” she whispered hoarsely.
