My Thoughts:

The author sets the tone right from the beginning.  Know that her Prologue will be a shock to the heart.  It shows that not everyone has an easy life.  If you are someone who is sensitive to certain things or have triggers, be prepared for what might get emotional.  It also gives you the background to understand the present.  Besides being emotional it will grab your attention because you want to know how anyone can survive that.

Wraith has a lot of anger but is it directed inward or at someone else.  Prinie is frustrated but is it with herself or directed elsewhere.  You could certainly read this as a standalone but there are characters that may have you wondering “what did I miss?”  So, going back to book one might be a good idea.  If you’ve never read this author before and you want to understand what this series is about, starting from the beginning is a good choice as well.

This is a book where you will get your money’s worth.  The author has several different stories going on that all blend together.  They move in and out seamlessly and not so the reader gets confused.  Each is important to the main characters – fighting for something/someone important.  But if I had to nitpick about anything then it would have to be that the MC business seemed to come to the forefront one too many times.  I could understand it but I wanted more of what was going on with Wraith and Prinie.

However, it was smart on the author’s part because she left me no choice but to see where the main characters were going.  I came to care about what was going to happen with her secondary characters as well.  In the end it was all worth it since she gave me what I wanted.  I look forward to seeing where the rest of this series is going to go and who I’m going to learn about.
