Synopsis

My Thoughts:

River Addington loves to be with grandma – reminds me of all the things I loved doing with my own grandmother. She tells River a cute little story – the author made it very easy for me to visualize the whole scene. Warner Nine likes to outsmart people but not everyone can be. As I watch him mature, I also see him get cocky. Then he seems to change once he meets River.

These are two characters that haven’t even graduated high school but they seem wiser beyond their years. At first I thought this might be a young adult read but there are certain situations and actions that make it more a new adult. Don’t expect their story to be a fast one. Our author takes the time to build her story. Just like building anticipation, our author takes her time in letting us get to know our main characters.

For me, this story took a psychological turn. We start out with two teenagers that are just trying to find their way through all the problems that kids their age go through. Add in parents that aren’t the norm and then to that the ever-mounting problems. Then something happens that puts into motion something that can’t be undone. Almost like a switch got flipped – I had shivers up and down my spine. Once that switch changed, I just couldn’t look away – didn’t want to miss what might happen next. This is not a story where you can even try to anticipate what is going to happen around the next corner. All that leads to an ending but it left me with a feeling that things weren’t finished.
