Elizabeth Parkins lived through a nightmare come trueógetting kidnapped by a serial killer. Seeking a fresh start, she moves to Texas, but escaping her demons proves impossible when she's too terrified to leave her own apartment. A small, accidental fire sparks a coping method she'd never expected, and brings an amazing man to her door.
Firefighter Cade "Sledge" Turner's idyllic life ended the day his sister was kidnapped. Now he knows firsthand that tragedy can befall anyone, at any time. Meeting Elizabeth on the job was a gift. Cade can envision spending his life with this woman. He understands what she's been through, is willing to help her healÖthough even Cade is unaware of Beth's new secret obsession.
As Beth takes steps to help herself heal, and Cade attempts to earn her trust and prove his own, they're both about to be testedóin a way that could see everything they've worked for go up in flames.
* Shelter for Elizabeth is the 5th book in the Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

My Thoughts:
Elizabeth “Beth” Parkins has an issue that has put her in
danger. It’s that danger that brings her
into contact with Cade “Sledge” Turner.
It’s instant attraction and their connection will grab your attention. He has just the right words that make her
feel safe and eventually loved.
This is a story with a message of courage. There are all different types. There’s the firefighter’s courage that he, or
she, has in order to do their job.
There’s also the courage to not let personal tragedy define you. You can fight what has happened to you and
come out stronger on the other side. And
that strength can shine through and let love in. Your tragedy can go on and help others that
may have been in a similar situation.
What I loved about Cade is that he’s a very persistent man. He uses that persistence to get past Beth’s
defenses. He’s just what she needs. I also liked his sister, Penelope, and look
forward to seeing more of her. She’s
also someone else that is good for Beth.
If you liked Sigourney Weaver in the movie Copycat, you may enjoy this book.
And if you haven’t seen the film, after you finish this story you may
just want to watch it. I felt that the
romance was nice between Cade and Beth but for me it was the way Beth didn’t
let her past get in the way of her future that grabbed my attention and had me
hooked until the very end. Something
else that clicked for me was Beth’s choice of a coping mechanism. It’s a secret that you’ll want to watch out
for – see if she gets caught.
You don’t need to have read the other books in order to enjoy this
one. But you should be a fan of the
author’s by the time you finish this latest in her Badge of Honor Series. And
if you become a fan then you will want to keep up with the rest of the Heroes.
The Epilogue gets you ready for Justice
for Boone coming in September – so plenty of time to get caught up on your
reading.
