About the Book:

I’m on the edge of glory.

My dad—the famous head of Dark Horse Racing, Adrian Malone—is ready to retire. His dream has been to hand the company over to me—his daughter and only child—as his dad did with him. I have some big shoes to fill, since he’s the record holder for race wins, but every day, I do my best to make him proud.

I’m tough, determined, and want to win at all costs. But as the stakes grow higher, it seems my life might be the cost.

Now, I’m going to have to play nice with the sexy-as-sin bodyguard. The former Marine with a dark past doesn’t want to play any games, but he also can’t stay away. I’m going to show him that he should never have underestimated the dark horse, because now I have my sights set on him, and I race to win.

My Thoughts:

Adrienne wants to add to her family’s legacy.  She shows that women are just as capable of doing what used to be a man’s sport.  She also takes the lead in this story so the reader gets to her mos of her thoughts.  There were times where I would have liked to hear what King was thinking but that just helped in getting me to turn the page.

Adrienne has a lot of feelings going on and the author does a great job in showing how it affects her.  She helps to feed my need for speed.  Having grown up with a family that watched all the auto races available on the television, this story shows how far the sport has come.  I always wanted to be behind the wheel of a fast car but during younger days, women were not in the sport until I saw Shirley Muldowney.

Our author goes beyond auto racing by giving me mystery and suspense.  We have a brooding alpha male and some really steamy scenes. King was completely opposite to what I would have thought Adrienne was looking for in a man but he was exactly what she needed when the moment is right. I was happiest when I realized that my need for suspense was going to carry me all the way to an end.  You’d think I would be happy with that but I wasn’t because that meant my time with this book was also coming to an end.  But I have to wonder if I got an ending or not.  Guess that means I’ll have to follow the author in order to find out.

Meet Jennifer Rebecca:

Jennifer is a thirty something lover of words, all words: the written, the spoken, the sung (even poorly), the sweet, the funny, and even the four letter variety. She is a native of San Diego, California where she grew up reading the Brownings and Rebecca with her mother and Clifford and the Dog who Glowed in the Dark with her dad, much to her mother’s dismay.

Jennifer is a graduate of California State University San Marcos where she studied Criminology and Justice Studies. She is also a member of Alpha Xi Delta.

13 years ago, she was swept off her feet by her very own sailor. Today, they are happily married and the parents of a 10 year old and 8 year old twins. She lives in East Texas where she can often be found on the soccer fields, drawing with her children, or reading. Jennifer is convinced that if she puts her fitbit on one of the dogs, she might finally make her step goals.

She loves a great romance, an alpha hero, and lots and lots of laughter.
