Kolya Boykov isn’t afraid to die—he’s already been dead for a long time.

My Thoughts:
Kolya Boykov doesn't worry about impressing anyone. I'm terrible at hearing accents in my head. This book makes me wish I weren't. Kolya let's us see the inner workings of the Bratva he belongs to - in great detail in case you have any triggers. What I like about our author is that she doesn't try to sugarcoat anything.
Maya Kozlov has had to learn the hard way how to survive. I like the fact that the author puts her own spin on how a Bratva should be. It's what will keep you interested. Don't want to think that it's something you've read before. Some things may feel the same but violence is part of their way of life. Our author may have you cringe but I can't say that it might or might not be a trigger for some. For me it was just part of the action - think action/adventure movie.
Ms. Kris did a great job at creating a character for me to hate. He's important to the story but it doesn't mean you have to like him. It also doesn't take away from my book rating. Part of that is because she also created a secondary character I love - not so he overshadowed our main characters. The opposite side of her coin comes with plenty of heat - one word, scorching.
This is supposed to be a standalone and for me that usually means that I'm happy with the one book and have no issue going on to another. The ending though doesn't do that for me here. It leaves me wanting more and wondering when I'm going to get it. I'm not a patient person when I have to wait for something I want so hopefully I won't have to wait too long.
