My Thoughts:
This story grabbed my attention right from the beginning. Having a great pair of narrators helps in keeping me transfixed. The only advice I have for you is don't try and listen if you're feeling sick. I speak from experience. There were times where I had a hard time concentrating because of being so ill.
My saving grace was knowing that if I pick up a book by this author, I know that I'm going to enjoy it from beginning to end. Plus I know that if I see Ms. Arndt and Mr. York are my narrators then I know I'm going to like it that much more. One thing that they do is give me the emotions that our characters are feeling. At least for me, I don't put in the emotions that the professionals do. Plus, who wouldn't want this duo reading to them.
Drew Carson has secrets. She has an agenda and getting answers is at the top of her list. Cannon Freeman is something of a mystery. He walks a fine line between the truth and what must never be spoken. Our narrators are the ones that bring the mystery and suspense to life. They made me glad that I listened to this story as opposed to reading it myself. I know I would have loved the book but there is no way that I would have been able to picture the characters using my own voice. The author does a great job at creating compelling characters with an instant connection but I needed to hear a voice that will transport me into their world.
One thing this author is very good at is leaving me hanging. You know when you start a book that at some point an ending will come. With an audiobook, you know that it has a length but you get so lost in it that you don't realize that a good chunk of time has gone by until you get to that proverbial ledge and know you can't take that next step because the story has stopped. The only thing I have to look forward to, and that's no hardship, is waiting for White Knight to come out.
