My Thoughts:

Andrew “Drew” Legine is a man of many talents.  He’s spent a lot of time working hard and now he wants to change that.  Jetty Silver is a woman who does things most of us would not be able to do.  Even though both these characters are paranormal, they still have human qualities.

There’s a creature this author has created that affects how our characters live and act.  The mystery of this creature will have you turning the pages to see how our shifters handle their enemy.  But they also have humans that they need to be careful of.

Even though this story is pure fantasy, the author writes as if it is plausible for these people to actually exist.  You know how much time our author takes to create her characters when the character lets you know the food they’ve missed eating.  But she also takes the time to include a message.  It shows that two different groups of shifters can get along and even fall in love.  But the sad part is that they seem isolated from the rest of the world – yes by choice but it shows the fear of discovery.  She’s an author who does a great job of developing her characters for her reader’s pleasure.

Maybe you have a list of books you read when it rains.  Maybe you like to read on a boat.  Or maybe you have a list of beach reads.  How about if you need to pass the time when you’re at the Laundromat.  This is a book that would fit in all these categories.

This is a book that you don’t have to have read the previous books of the series.  There are characters that may have you wanting to go back and read the previous five books.  If you’re a fan of this author, you may have already read them and this would be a great addition to your library.  I can tell you she has the title of her next Grizzly Cove book titled The Bear’s Healing Touch.  The only thing I can’t tell you is when it will be out so you will have to patient until it does.

Enticing Journey Book Promotions Presents: Power by Kenya Wright; #ReviewTour, #BlogTour, #OnTour, #NewRelease

Power
by Kenya Wright
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: July 15, 2016
Rating:  3.5 Stars
Told in the first person.

Disclosure of Material Connection:  I received this book for review from Enticing Journey Book Promotions and the author.  I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review.  The opinions I have expressed are my own.  I am posting this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255:  "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising".

***Warning: This book contains adult language, graphic violence, and explicit sex that may be disturbing for some readers. This book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.***

Mary Jane, a struggling comedienne, stumbled into the wrong club at the wrong time. She didn't notice the gangster gripping the gun and the two scary men on his sides. She just jumped on the stage, tested the microphone, and went into her routine.

And that's where things got interesting.

Noah was the gangster that gripped the gun. The Beast of Din City. The Boss of the Streets. The one who ruled them all from the North to the South. Not liking to murder women, he'd now been thrown into an uncomfortable situation. She'd accidentally become a witness to something she shouldn't have seen.

She'd now become a problem.

Yet, their gazes met and hearts faltered, thump, thumping in their chest like a tune beat out from bullets slicing through the air and bodies crashing to the ground.

Their gazes met and things would never be the same for him or her, nor the Streets. Their gazes met and he decided not to kill her, instead he took her on a journey where sex meets the rhythm of the streets, high to low, smooth to rough, growing inside of them both until they're not sure, if any of them will survive—him, her, or those bloody streets.

Noah is a very dark man in all aspects of his life.  The sad part is that he’s been that way since a young age.  He makes no excuses for what he does – but does that make him honorable.  Mary Jane is a young woman who’s in the wrong place at the wrong time.  She has a way of getting under someone’s skin.  This interaction will have you looking to see what type of impact she will have on his life.

The author puts a joke at the beginning of each chapter.  It won’t take you long to realize why the joke comes at the beginning.  MJ may have a thing for jokes, no offense to the author but they just didn’t make me laugh.  And you may not feel the same.  She also divides her book into acts.

I liked the idea behind this story but I found it easy to walk away from.  There’s plenty of violence here but that’s the world they live in.  I wasn’t able to stay away either because I had to know what happened to Mary Jane in the end.  You always hope that the woman can change the man but she ends up loving him the way he is.  Some may think he changed but underneath it all I just didn’t feel he changed himself.  At times the story seemed a little strange but that also doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t attempt to try and read it again.  Just a warning for those looking for a short read - this is a long book, over 400 pages.  For me, the ending left the possibility of another story.

Kenya Wright wrote her first novel during her third year at UM Law school. She dropped out a month after the release and never looked back.

Words are power, and Kenya wants to be the greatest wizard that ever lived.
It's an audacity to inspire and teach the healing of love through arousal.
It's this crazy idea that love can not only help a reader escape, but the story can also teach the person  about being human, while making them laugh, cry, and hot for more sex.

About Reckless

Synopsis:
The new London office of Benson Security hasn’t even opened its doors yet and already it’s neck deep in its first case…
If the mission doesn’t kill him, his sexy partner just might.
Dimitri Raast and Megan Donaldson have a common enemy—the head of an organisation that specializes in human trafficking and sexual slavery.

They have similar motivation—Dimitri’s sister was taken by the organisation, and Megan’s sister is threatened by it.

They have the same goal—eliminate their enemy and save their sisters.

Given they have so much in common, you would think working together would be a piece of cake.

You would be wrong.

While Dimitri brings skills and experience from years as a US Army Ranger to their partnership, Megan brings a background in failed career choices and an ability to cause trouble wherever she goes. Yet, even with so much at stake, Dimitri can’t resist Megan’s particular brand of crazy. She’s wild, she’s sexy and she’s fearless. An irresistible combination for a man who lives his life completely in control. Now, after almost a year with one all-consuming focus, Dimitri finds himself torn between rescuing his sister and protecting the woman he wants - from herself.

Before she gets them both killed.

Amazon | iBooks | Kobo | B&N

My Thoughts:

Dimitri Rasst is all about deception until someone gets the better of him.  Megan Donaldson is a woman with a lot of attitude.  She takes no bull from anyone.  There’s a tension between them that makes for a great page-turner.  For me, Dimitri was outshined by Megan – I just wanted to see what she would do to get me laughing.

One character that I loved is named Julia.  She’s a shy woman who is what might be considered a techie.  She’s one character that you hope things will change in her life and she’ll find that special someone.  On the other hand, Rachel is a bitch of a co-worker.  She’s one of those characters that you love to hate – she’s just a little aggravating.

One thing that I loved about the author was how she would take a serious moment and turn it around by getting you to laugh.  And I mean out loud laughing.  There was one scene where I just couldn’t help myself and I had to let out a big laugh.  I’m lucky it was only my father around because if I had been out in public people may have thought I was nuts.

I think with how the author mixed the action/adventure with the light-hearted moments is what made it one of those books where you can’t tolerate any interrupts until you’ve gotten to the very end.  Megan is a strong female character in that she’s willing to reinvent herself in order to go after what she wants.  But Dimitri also likes her quirkiness.  She’s also a passionate person especially for those that she cares about.  People always talk about book boyfriends but I’ve not seen a mention of a book girlfriend.  I think in this instance that Megan fits the bill – I’d want her in my corner.

The author has a great writing style because the reader will have no problems seeing her scenes play out in their mind.  She takes a serious and real subject and turns it into a romantic comedy.  She does not make fun of the subject but she doesn’t bog the storyline down with making things too serious.  I think that if she got too serious than the tone of the story would have changed and I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much.

By the time you get to the end, you realize that you have to see where Ms. Henderson is going to take this series.  She may have given you a hint about her next book with the Epilogue.  It’s certainly a great way to be introduced to a new author as well.  If you love this book you’ll want to see what else this author has written.

Excerpt:
They were meeting Johnny Rotten in a dark alley. Of course they were meeting a guy called Johnny Rotten in a dark alley. Megan rolled her eyes. Obviously Johnny went to the TV movie school of how to be a bad guy.
“You stay here.” Dimitri pointed at a dumpster. Yeah. A dumpster. She half expected some guy with a camera to shout cut and make them start again.
“You don’t mean in the dumpster, right?” Because—eew!
“No. Beside it. In the dark.” He didn’t even try to disguise that he was losing patience. “Don’t move, don’t make a sound, don’t interrupt.”
Blah, blah, blah, let the big boys play. She was so tired of hearing the same old tune. It was time to change the radio station.
“Right,” Dimitri said. “I’m going to drive round and come in from the other end.”
“Why can’t I just wait in the car? It’s cold and it stinks here.”
“Because…” He stretched the word out. “You’re supposed to be my hostage. I can’t just let you hang out in the car.”
“I can pretend to be drugged.”
“No. Too dangerous. He might spot you, know who you are and that Rudi wants you. Then what would stop him deciding to eliminate me and take you to Rudi himself?”
She stamped her feet to get her blood circulating before the chill removed her toes. “Why didn’t you just take me back to the office?”
“You’re my backup.” There was a silent ‘idiot’ attached to that sentence, she just knew it.
“The backup that hides in dumpsters?”
“The backup that phones for help if it looks like things are going south.”
Megan blushed, grateful he couldn’t see it in the dark. “So, I need my phone?”
He put his hands on his hips and looked skyward for a moment. “Where is it?”
“Car.” She gave him what she hoped was an apologetic smile.
He stomped off, cursing under his breath and came back a few minutes later with the phone. “Sorted now?”
Megan nodded. It probably wasn’t the best time to tell him she really needed to use the bathroom. She could hold it. How long did it take to have a covert meeting in an alley anyway?
She gave him a thumbs up and watched him march back to the car. Leaving her alone in a stinky, dark alley. Alone and not thinking about how good Dimitri’s lips felt against hers. Nope. She wasn’t thinking about that at all. She was a professional—nearly. She had a job to do. She backed into the shadows and tried to become invisible. Ninja Megan. She could do it. It was all about the power of the mind. She closed her eyes and took a few calming breaths.
That’s when her stomach rumbled. Her hand smacked flat on it as she bit her lip. Maybe all that fried food wasn’t such a great idea after all. Not that she would ever admit that to Dimitri. She was still mad at the man. Sure she’d been the first to say they weren’t in a relationship, but he didn’t have to agree so enthusiastically. He’d sounded affronted. As though she was the last person on earth he’d consider dating. It was insulting. Her stomach made a strange bubbling sound as she saw Dimitri’s SUV pull up at the other end of the alley. He got out and stood under the yellow glow of the street lamp. Waiting. Alert. Moody.
Megan’s stomach rumbled again. Loudly. This wasn’t good. So much for not making a sound. Her own body was working against her. She crouched down in an attempt to dull the noise, and hoped it worked. She closed her eyes, tried to calm her stomach and think thoughts that made her invisible.
That’s when she farted.
It wasn’t silent.
Megan dropped her head to her knees. If the bad guys didn’t get her, she’d die of humiliation.
And then her stomach rumbled again.

About Janet Elizabeth Henderson:

I grew up in Scotland, but now I’m living in New Zealand - married to a Dutch man whom I met in America. (It can get a little confusing in my household!) When I'm not living in my head, I'm a mother to two tiny kids, three pet sheep, three miniature horses, three alpacas, one dog, two cats, several chickens and an escape artist goat.

5 random things about me:

1. I accidentally mooned a crowd at a Bolivian wedding.

2. I've been chased by a gang of baboons. And I mean gang. They were organised and vicious. All that was missing was their leather jackets and tattoos!

3. I wrote my first novel when I was 22. It was a cross between Star Wars, Monsters Inc. and Tinkerbelle. Funnily enough, no one wanted to publish it. Odd that...

4. I was a portrait artist on the streets of Amsterdam for a time.

5. I worked night shift as a security guard at Stirling Castle in Scotland while I was in art college. The castle was on a terrorist hit-list back then. To defend it they gave me a flashlight, a two-way radio that only worked one-way and made me wear a polyester A-line skirt...
